Frequently asked questions:
How soon should bare-root plants be planted after digging them up?
Plant plants soaked in hydrogel within 1-3 days of receiving them. If you cannot plant within this time, moisten the roots and keep the plant in a cool place.
How deep should apple and pear trees be planted?
Pome fruit trees should be planted up to the rootstock. Do not bury the rootstock.
How deep should plums, peaches, sweet cherries, apricots and sour cherries be planted?
Stone fruit trees should be planted with the rootstock left a few centimetres below ground level.
What spacing should be used for fruit trees?
Medium-vigour fruit trees should be planted 2.5-3 m apart. Columnar fruit trees should be planted 1.5 m apart, while columnar apple trees can be planted 0.7 m apart.
When is the best time to plant fruit trees?
Container-grown plants can be planted throughout the warm season, from early spring until late autumn before frost. Plants dug from the ground should be planted from spring, once the soil has warmed, until the buds burst. Trees that already have leaves must not be dug up.
What should fruit trees be sprayed with in spring?
The first spray is applied in late February or early March with copper sulfate, when the outdoor temperature is around 10 degrees. The second spray is applied before the buds burst, when growth is visible, using fungicides such as Score 250 EC or Topas 100 EC (2 ml + 2.5 ml per 10 l of water). The third spray is applied immediately after flowering, as the petals fall. After flowering, remove branches and shoots affected by brown rot from cherries and plums, disinfect the wounds and then spray with fungicides. For the third spray, use the same products as before flowering, optionally adding an insecticide such as Mavrik.
