IDEAL walnut tree
IDEAL grows to no more than 7-8 m and branches from ground level. It begins fruiting early, in the third or fourth year. A distinctive feature is a second flowering: after the first bloom it flowers again about two weeks later. The second crop can contain up to 22 nuts per cluster. First-crop nuts ripen at the end of September and second-crop nuts in the second half of October. First-crop nuts weigh about 10.3 g, have a thin, firm shell with few partitions, a kernel making up 52.8% of the weight and an excellent taste.
Propagate from seed, sowing in autumn in light soil at 6-10 cm and covering with peat. Plant 1-2-year-old seedlings in their permanent place because older trees have a strong taproot that is easily damaged during transplanting. Prefers a sunny location and moisture, but not nearby groundwater.
