Sour Cherry-Sweet Cherry Hybrid 'HORTENZIJA'

Sour cherry-sweet cherry hybrid Hortenzija is a very old sour cherry and sweet cherry hybrid. It begins bearing 2–3 years after planting.  The variety is very productive and bears every year.  It is believed that this hybrid was bred in France in 1512. The variety was named after the Dutch Queen Hortensia (1783–1537), renowned for her beauty and romantic nature. Hortenzija is grown throughout Europe.  

The variety is very early and self-fertile; the berries ripen in late June to early July. The fruits are medium to large, about 7 g (2–2.5 cm in diameter), yellow-red and heart-shaped. The fruit skin is thin and glossy; the flesh is light and juicy, with clear, non-staining juice. The fruits are very tasty, sweet and sour. The berries are suitable for eating fresh as a dessert and for processing.
