Variegated self-pollinating actinidia HOKEY POKEY

Awarded a gold medal in 2020. This self-pollinating variety stands out for its ornamental foliage and useful fruit. The leaves are two-coloured and the vine winds around supports, growing up to 4 m. The leaves turn yellow in autumn.

It flowers in June with attractive 1-2 cm blooms. The fruit is 2 cm long and 1.5 cm wide, tastes like kiwi, can be eaten with the skin and has a sweet-and-sour flavour.

Begins fruiting 2-3 years after planting. Needs a warm, sheltered, sunny location and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Hardy to about -25°C (zone 6b), but sensitive to spring frosts, so cover if frost is forecast. Suitable for planting beside gazebos, mesh fences or wires stretched between posts. Supplied in a pot.
