Winter apple tree ŠAMPION

Šampion is a very productive variety developed in the Czech Republic. The fruit is picked at the end of September or beginning of October and keeps until the end of March. The apples are medium-sized to large, round-conical, sweet-and-sour and very tasty. The skin is greenish-yellow or green with red stripes that often merge into bands or cover the whole fruit. The flesh is yellowish-white. The trees are moderately vigorous with dense, conical crowns.

Fruit: medium-sized apples with yellow skin covered by a light red blush, firm and juicy yellowish flesh and a pleasant sweet-and-sour taste. Stores until March.

Fruiting: begins in the second or third year after planting and occurs every year.

Soil: sandy loam that is permeable to moisture.

Picking time: the second half of October.

Hardiness: moderately frost-hardy and resistant to disease.

The seedling is two years old. In spring we send bare-root plants; in autumn and summer the seedling arrives in a pot.

Expert comment: One of the most popular apple varieties. The apples are also called pear apples because of their flavour and yellowish flesh.
